This started about a week ago on a co-worker's computer. First nothing happened when she launched FF, but when I looked at the task manager, FF was there. I did a clean reinstall, and it worked fine for about three days. Then the exact same thing happened, did another clean reinstall, worked for two days. Now when she launches FF, the window opens, but FF just hangs. Quick update: It's been about 15 minutes since I last touched FF, and it finally loaded a page, but when I click on the window at all, it freezes again.

The computer is running Win 7 64 bit, MS security essentials is the AV program on here.

Thank you!

Can you start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the problem is still there?

  • Go to Help > Restart with Add-ons disabled

Or if you can't start Firefox:

  • Windows: Hold the SHIFT key while double clicking the Firefox desktop icon
  • Mac: Hold the OPTION key while double clicking the Firefox icon on your Dock or in your Applications folder
  • Linux: Go to your Terminal and run /path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-mode
    • Default path for Firefox is /usr/lib/firefox

If the issue is not there whilst browsing in Safe Mode then the problem lies within one of your extensions. Enable your extensions one-by-one to pinpoint the exact add-on that is malfunctioning.

Thanks, Moses I will try. I really had to get this computer back up so I did another reinstall, but if the problem continues, I'll try safe mode and enabling extensions one at a time.

Cheers.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
