My bookmarks have been erased by 4.0 update and I cant add new ones. I had a backup of them but it wont restore it either.

It sounds like there is a problem with the file that stores bookmarks, for details of how to fix that see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
