I keep getting an error window saying that this URL is invalid and cannot be loaded. If I exit this window the page loads or the error message reappears a few times then the page loads. Frustrating. Started about 9 months ago.

This only seems to happen using FF3.6.6, not IE. The page will eventually load but it may need this error closed a few times. Some pages load without problems. I'm using XP SP3 on an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3Gb. Also after a recent FF update on an Apple MacPro 8 core (about 2-3 months ago) , OS10.5 - I keep being asked to approve the use of a couple of fonts despite ticking "do not ask again"....

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Thanks, I'll give it a try, so it's cookies?

Not cookies, but more likely an extension.

With things like this it is always better to make sure that cookies and other cached data do not cause additional problems.

I've disabled slected plug-ins, ones for programs I don't or won't use and the error message seems to have stopped. Time will tell. Thanks to all who took the time to respond.
