On android, it is possible to change the search engine of the search bar on the home screen. There you can select a Search Engine App, like Google, Qwant or Startpage.

However, Firefox is currently not available as a selectable option there. Adding it there would make it possible for those searches to be handled by firefox.

Thanks, I know that. But its not actually a "search engine" select. It just configures which app handles the searches. While both Qwant and Startpage are search engines, they only appear because I have installed their browsers (which are both forks of the android Firefox app).
