firefox is writing 2000+ files a day in internet cache profiles
I use CCleaner to remove unwanted files from my computer. The last 2 days I have had 2000+ files listed under internet cache profiles. It also lists 300,000+ KB in the same heading.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.
The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.
Turn on Remember my browsing and download history At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on Cache and Form And Search History.

You may find the special address about:cache useful. Key it in to the Firefox address bar and press Enter. It details cache usage.
