Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove bing Anything. Now do the same in the computers Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

After the problem is fixed, Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

"Internet Options" has nothing to do with Firefox. And Firefox settings aren't saved to the Windows Registry - that's for IE or Edge.

See this support article to learn how to change the default search engine. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-your-default-search-settings-firefox#w_set-a-default-search-engine

Did you also check your Programs Folder?

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Hi jsmoothmc, giving you a link to one of our support articles is not meant to be rude or inconsiderate. We often give links to support articles on this site for tasks that involve numerous steps. This helps avoid errors and the articles cover multiple different versions of Firefox so the answers stay valid into the future when people may find this discussion in a web search.

If you were referring to Firefox's address bar or search bar:

The article about how to set your default search engine is the first thing to check.

If your default search engine is already set to Google but Firefox is using Bing anyway, then you may have a bad add-on overriding your Firefox settings. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons, hijackers, and ad injectors. I know it seems long, but it's not that bad.

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox, and you can learn more about them by checking their reviews on the Add-ons site.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Success?

If you were referring to an external search bar provided by Windows:

External search bars generally send a fully formed search URL to Firefox, and generally speaking, Firefox doesn't change that from what Windows sends to something else. There is an exception for some "Cortana" searches on Windows 10, but I'm not aware of any exception for other Windows searches.

No need to be complimentary. A simple thank you is sufficient.
