http ://lazyfirefox .co .cc/ is this a valid firefox webpage? I opened a new page to do a search and what looked like an authentic notification from firefox said I needed to update my flash. After clicking on the update and download, I didn't notice the name of the webpage until it kept happening. Now I'm concerned it wasn't actually firefox and I've downloaded something I shouldn't have. This has not...so far....affected my actual firefox browser....I just don't see anywhere else on the mozilla/firefox website to find out.

I just encountered this same site, and am also wondering if it's a fraud site (I posted the same question, I'm afraid, to the support forums, a minute ago, because I didn't find your question before I posted, even though I did try to search; oh well).

As for you - after downloading the file, did you actually run it? If you downloaded the file, but then did not RUN the file, you are probably safe - generally, just downloading an infected file doesn't hurt your computer - it is usually required that you run it before it can hurt you. Just delete the downloaded file, and then I wouldn't worry too much about it, if you didn't run it.

If you did run it, you might want to think about formatting your PC's main hard drive, and then doing a clean re-install of the O.S. and applications.

It is 100% a fraud site. Do not download or run the executable file it serves you.

Too late....I ran it. The site looked absolutely authentic. Of course I trust Firefox, so i didn't look that closely......Got me. I hate those people that do this. My virus scan kept popping up found trojans, so i just ran a complete scan and found a whole mess of them. To Jsbiff....I am not am not part of the nerd herd at Buy More ; < ) , so I am not computer savvy enough to format and reinstall my OS, plus a gazillion apps. I just hope everything is OK now.

Glad you all didn't run the program like I did. I'm still kicking myself.

Carlyn,

Well, it might be that the antivirus software can clean everything. . . but it's possible that some of the malware installed by that site may be so new that it is not yet recognized by your antivirus, in which case it might not get correctly cleaned off y our PC.

Give the antivirus the chance to clean it, but if it looks like it's not getting everything bad removed, then you might need to find someone to help you do the format/re-install thing; that's the only way to (almost) guarantee that your system has been cleaned, unfortunately.

moderator fixed the formatting
