MacOS: If not already running, Firefox does not load requested URL on launch

MacOS: If not already running, Firefox does not load requested URL on launch MacOS 26.5.2, Firefox 152.0.4

How to reproduce: 1) Set Firefox as the default browser 2) Completely quit Firefox 3) Open a URL (e.g. open Spotlight, type a query, select "Search the web", or any of the many other ways) 4) Observe Firefox opens but does not open a tab with the externally requested URL

This used to work fine. It still works on Windows. Reproduced on two different Macs. If Firefox is already running, it works as expected.

Still true for MacOS 26.6.1 and Firefox 153.0.4

There seem to be some changes in Tahoe SDKs, there's some work being done in bugzilla.mozilla.org/2055233

(In other words, it's currently only in Nightly, and is not deemed to be trivial enough to ship earlier. If you're however willing to use Firefox Nightly nightly.mozilla.org for a bit — it comes with its own separate profile to not mess with your existing setup — and set it as your default browser to test these cold starts if it's fixed for your environment, it would be awesome!)

Thank you, I did not notice that a bug had been filed.

For anyone who finds the bug TL;DR, Firefox 154 is expected to contain a fix.

I did find it originally, but haven't seen any approved resolution back then. It has now landed in 155.0a1 (20260724215355) — however current tracking is not to uplift to v154, it will only be included in v155beta next week, sorry there's no better news.

Sual ver
