AIE! I fell for a scam, deleted my TB email account, but can't get it running again

I clicked on a link that came from a bogus ATT site. Fearing my email password was now known, I changed it, but now my email address doesn't work. When I try to receive an email at that address, this error message comes up: Login to server outbound.att.net with username @sbcglobal.net failed. When prompted to put in a password, the new password shoots me right back to the same error message. If I try the old password, it also sends me back to the same error message. I tried removing and reinstalling TB, but that didn't help.

Your main AT&T password won't work. You need to generate a Secure Mail Key and enter that in Thunderbird. See https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308

Instead of a regular account password, use a secure mail key. Delete the passwords in Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, restart TB, enter the mail key when prompted.
