I was trying to duplicate the current tab - I thought ctrl + drag did that. But as it didn't seem to work I tried various key presses and buttons (including the scroll wheel) and then the tab just disappeared. As the other tabs do not switch to their page I wondered if this was a feature and if there's a way to get the tab back? I've got Colorful Tabs extension installed. Tabs work on a different window.

Firefox options page will not come up on either window.

To duplicate the current tab in a new tab ...

Middle-click the Reload current page button that appears in the right-side of the Location Bar. Or use { Ctrl +Click } on that "Reload" button.

Many thanks for that. Of course, it does not work in the window with my missing tab.

Sorry, I don't understand your problem = "missing tab".

If the tab is closed, open it again from History.

And if that isn't your problem, I suggest that you do basic troubleshooting via the Firefox SafeMode.

Do you see this tab in the list all tabs drop-down list?

You would have to open extra tabs until you see this button appear at the far right end of the Tab bar. You could also try to close and restore this tab if the tab content is still there, but not the tab on the tab bar. If necessary then you can copy the URL to the clipboard and use Ctrl+W to close the tab and then reopen a new tab with the URL. If you keep having problems then open a new window and possibly drag all tabs to the Tab bar in that window.
