When I have been at a site for a while and decide to go back, when I use the drop down box it has filled with the current page location. The longer I am there the more times it repeats its self.

Similar report with Firefox 21 today (starting with second reply): my back arrow does not take me back to the previous page, it just reloads the page i'm on.

As a temporary workaround, this seemed to be successful in the other thread:

Block reloads in the Options/Preferences dialog:

(WIN) orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced (MAC) Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab > "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

But... I think there's still a likely interaction with an extension or other setting, so if this works for you, it's more of a stopgap to preserve sanity while taking a break from troubleshooting.

Did you try Safe Mode?

An extension may be responsible for adding up those entries of the same page.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

On another forum, it was reported that some pages reload incessantly if you are using automatic or permanent private browsing mode. Not sure whether that is relevant to your setup. Can't return to previous page! • mozillaZine Forums.
