V21.0 of Firefox disables Soundcloud audio
It worked fine in previous editions of the browser, which is my primary at work. IE9 on the same system plays the same files fine and audio from other sites (YouTube, ESPN) also works OK in Firefox. The specific page that caused me to notice this is: https://soundcloud.com/jrs-1-1, but I have tried other clips on the site.

That did the trick! So it's a Javascript issue...
Thanks for your persistence, it would have taken me quite a while to try that on my own!

hello brassil, please try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...
Didn't make a difference, sorry.
any help in here?: Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox (i've noticed that real player is present on your system too, so it might play part in it)
I actually tried that stuff first, even though I don't get that error. The key point here is that it worked fine before the v21.0 upgrade. Something in that broke things, and pretty specifically, since audio from other sites plays fine.
Try to clear the Flash local storage and settings.
- Windows Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage: Local Storage Settings
- Remove a specific domain: Local Storage Settings by site
- Remove all domains: Delete All and Delete Data
Flash Website Storage Settings panel:
Global Storage Settings Panel:
I did "Remove All Domains" and there's still no sound, sorry.
Did you check the volume control icon on the top right of that web page?
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the affected files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Yes, of course I checked the audio volume on Soundcloud. I have completely reset Firefox, so it's about as fresh as I can get it.
Note that a reset involves importing cookies and other history items (but no cache), so you may still have possible data from this domain that is causing problems.
Any luck with a New Private Window?
That's a good thought on the New Private Window, but it didn't help either.
That would imply that it is not a cookie or cache issue.
Do you otherwise have problems with Flash?
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
- disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
- disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
Flash works fine on every other site I have tried.
SoundCloud uses JavaScript to create and control the embedded Flash player.
Any luck with the Classic SoundCloud version?
