In Windows XP I could save an image in the png format then open it using firefox, copy and paste it into an excel spreadsheet. However I can't do this in Windows 7. Has anybody else encountered this problem and found a solution?

Kind regards

You should be able to select another program to open the PNG image and then browse to the Firefox program folder and select the firefox.exe program.

If this doesn't make the Firefox program appear in the Windows "Open with" list the next time then temporarily set Firefox as the default and change this at a later time to the preferred program.

Hi there,

Could you describe your workflow and what happens? If you mean that double-clicking on a .png file in a normal folder (Explorer) window doesn't launch it in Firefox, which application is launched when you click it? If you want to make Firefox the default application to handle .png files, you need to change these settings in Windows 7. Unfortunately I don't have it myself (running a Mac here) so I don't remember the exact instructions. But I'm sure you could right-click on a .png file and select "Open With..." and from there manually pick Firefox. Try that and see if you get the results you want!

Cheers, David

Hi David, thank you for responding to my question. When I open a png file using right mouse click what appears is recommended programs and other programs. Under recommended programs is internet explorer and Windows Photo Viewer, etc and under other programs is an empty space (using Windows 7). Using XP in that space is Firefox. I guess that may mean it is not possible to open png files using Firefox using Windows 7. However I now use the Internet Explorer and Windows Photo Viewer programs to open png files. Using IE I can copy that png image and paste it into an excel worksheet which is what I need to do. As with all changes in technology/life we lose some of the old benefits we once had and then need to adapt to the new system and make use of the new advantages and accept what we have lost and get on with life. Kind Regards George
