I have java 6.0.3, java 6.0.5 and java 6.0.7 installed. Do I need all three? If not, why doesn't installing a later version remove the earlier version? I don't think this is causing a problem but one never knows.

Thanks,

jbacinti

Java has a very poor updater which often leaves old versions of Java on your computer. Uninstall all those old versions, and then go to www.java.com to download the latest version (7 update 9)

How do I uninstall the old versions? I don't see a button to do that.

Thanks,

Click Start, control Panel, add remove programs. Then uninstall all instances of Java.

All I see there is "Java)TM) 6 Update 37. Is that all I have to uninstall?

more options

Yes uninstall that, then install the most recent Java from java.com. What you are likely seeing in Firefox are old Java consoles, and you can safely either disable or just ignore them.

As Tylerdowner said above, the older Java installers/updaters did not properly remove all components being replaced.

You must be referring to the multiple Java Console extensions listed in your Add-ons > Extensions:

  • Java Console 6.0.33 false {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0033-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
  • Java Console 6.0.35 true {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0035-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
  • Java Console 6.0.37 true {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0037-ABCDEFFEDCBA}

To remove Java Console 6.0.33 and Java Console 6.0.35, see the following (the 3rd paragraph gives specific instructions for manual removal):

Other - You need to check and update your plugins

  1. Check Plugins - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.4 r402
  3. Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.4

Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions.
You can uninstall and remove Java Console extensions, you do not need them to run Java applets.
