This morning Firefox is no longer responding when doing a Google search. When I type into the search box and hit a hard return, nothing happens. It is also unresponsive when I use the mouse to click the search box. Other search engines such as Bing & Yahoo work fine. Also, Google search works fine in Chrome. I've started in safe mode, disabled all plugins and add-ons and cannot seem to fix the problem.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi Everyone-

I finally got things working. What I did was export my bookmarks and passwords. I also made note of the add-ons and plugins. I then went ahead an uninstalled Firefox. I then followed the steps on this video: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-fix-firefox

Once I created a new profile and started Firefox, I re-imported my bookmarks and password.

BTW - I used a plugin to import and export my passwords.

I then reactivated the critical plugins and add-ons. Things seem to be working smoothly now.

Two of the plugins that I use are Firebug and Fireshot. They were going through some type of automatic upgrade this morning and I'm wondering if it messed something up.

Thank you for all the replies. Hopefully this thread will be helpful for others who may experience something similar.

Thanks!!

Hi Starrgirl,

Does this happen from google.com or from the search bar? If it's from the Search Bar, you might want to try deleting the google search plugin from your profile folder and reinstalling it.

You could also try Creating a new profile.

Hopefully this helps!

Thank you for the replies. I cleared the cache & cookies and the problem is still there.

When I'm trying to search in Google, I'm on the Google home page and type the search phrase into the bar on the home page. Usually once I've typed in the search phrase, I can hit the return and Google provides the search results. The Google search bar in Firefox seems to be working. It's only searches from Google's home page that are impacted

I haven't tried the new profile, is that still warranted based upon my response?

Thank you!

does the same thing happen when you run firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode? then it might be one of your addons interfering...

My wife has the same problem. But as soon as i logged into my Gmail account Google Search started to work (except in her window). When I logged out of Gmail -- the problem re-occurs even for my new tabs. I'm on Windows 7 using Firefox 12.0 and the only extra plugin i got is to cause Google to come up when a new tab is created. Hope this helps. thanks, saul.

I'm having precisely the same problem. In fact, I had to use Explorer to get Google to search to see if others were having this issue.

...but, as I'm typing this, I went back and signed out of my Google account, and searches began working. I signed back in and searches stopped working.

In IE they work either way.

Baffling...

Signing in and out didn't make a difference (but I really appreciate the suggestion!)

Perhaps I'll try making a new profile and see if that fixes it.

I'm totally open to other suggestions, so feel free to keep them coming :)
