Since the inception of the home computer I have always used Internet Explorer. I decided to download Firefox and I am very confused as to how I need to set it up and can use some really good expert help. I have tried doing this for many years with no success. Can someone help me out configuring Firefox for me? I also have many other questions and I really need guidance.

Thanks, Gary

I finally figured out how the forum works. It took me a while but I got it.Thanks for the tips as well.

Lets start with these following questions first so I don't drive myself nuts logging in all the time...

1.) How do I save my log ins and passwords to my homepage (AOL) and other website forums when I close down Firefox so I don't have to keep logging in to them every time I open Firefox?

2.) HughesNet Satellite is my internet provider but I use AOL as my home page, so I have them both as homepages, but I only want one of them, AOL, to open not both when I open Firefox. How do I keep the HughesNet homepage from opening when the AOL homepage opens? I only use the HughesNet homepage on an as needed basis. On IE8 there was a function in preferences to have only one homepage open when I started Internet Explorer and if I wanted to go to my other homepage I just clicked on the drop down next to the homepage house icon on the toolbar and just switched to it when I needed to.

Well...I just dumped the whole 9 yards off my computer. Just as before when I tried after installing Firefox which has been about 10 times in the past 5 years. I think setting up Firefox is very complicated...at least for me it is...I had it all screwed up again. It's frustrating and I would like to give it a try, but it seems so impersonal when you don't actually have a real person to chat with instead of just reading the links that everyone is sending me. My problem is understanding how to configure it. I want to get away from using Internet Explorer and use Firefox but I really really don't have a clue what the heck I'm doing until I can get some really good advice and configure it like most Firefox users have theirs configured. Then I can go and make the changes that I need to fit my needs when I get use to it.

Anyone care to go this route with me?

Well I just reloaded FF and am going to give it another go on configuring it. I did a lot of post reading and still have many more post to read. Hopefully I will get it right this time. It seems the more I spend time with it the more I am understanding what I have to do to configure it. Wish me luck. I really don't want FF to run me out of town.

I do have a question though...what are some of the popular addons that are being used? I am a drummer, at age 59 I am still learning and I like to download .flv and whatever other files that contain lessons , etc. Is it worth all the hassel to download any addons to capture these files and possible convert them so I can burn them to a disc?

You can try searching with keywords for eg. video download or flash download via Firefox Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons, search box on the top right or @ AMO. Add-ons installed via the official repositories are safe. The installed extensions would be listed in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons > Extensions and the themes in Appearance. The Plugins section usually contains auto detected audio/video plugins on the system as well as manually installed ones, and are usually used to play web content.

Another question in regards to PRIVACY in the OPTIONS section in the TOOLS menu...What would you recommend here? I check marked the do not track box, but I'm not so savvy on how I should set up HISTORY and the Location Bar section. Can you give me some guidance with how I should set this up?

For my needs: select Use custom settings for history, check every think except : Always use private browsing mode & Clear history when Firefox closes, and in Accept third-party cookies, scroll Keep until and chose I close Firefox.

What about these add ons?

Download them all,

Video Download Helper,

Flash block...I have a question about this add on,

Flash Got,

AD Block Plus.

When I visit websites that have these animated adverts they eat up a lot of my daily allowed MB from my HughesNet Satellite service provider. Is there a way to disable these ads from running?
