If the inoperable button or link is near the top of the page....

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

Thanks SafeBrowser. I fooled around with it a bit, but since I don't understand what I'm doing, so far I haven't solved the problem. But I will keep trying.

Simple really. The first 3 articles have steps in them, but not in this order.

1. First, with Firefox closed, remove the toolbars from Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. After the window populates, look for the Toolbars; if there, click on them and click on the button to the right of it that says "Remove". Then restart your system Start > Shut down > Restart

2. Second, start Firefox and check in Firefox Add-ons: Add-ons > Extensions. Look for Yahoo Toolbar or Babylon and try to remove by clicking "Remove" or "Disable".

3. Restart Firefox by exiting (Firefox button > Exit or File > Exit), wait a few seconds (10-30), then click the Firefox desktop icon to start Firefox and test to see if the problem is resolved.

Hi Safebrowser. Thanks for your help I removed a Yahoo application state plug-in, and that did the trick for a few days, but then it came back. Because of some other problem, I am unable to remove toolbars via add/remove programs. I think it is a rundll32 problem. I don't have a Babylon toolbar or anything else Babylon.

Any other suggestions?

My understanding of the Yahoo application state plug-in is that it helps with Yahoo Messenger integration; it is not a toolbar and is not what I originally suggested. How you got from my explicit instructions to the Yahoo application state plug-in is a mystery to me. You may need to post on a Yahoo-related forum to resolve that issue or any others related to Yahoo.

As for your not being able to use Add or Remove programs, you will need to post on a Windows forum to resolve that issue.

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

• Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

• Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
