The PACER site provides copies of court documents in Adobe format, pdf. However, when I access a document it appears in Firefox, rather than in Adobe. So, I am not able to download it to Adobe. (I have unchecked the "internet" option in Adobe appropriately, so that it is not instructed to download the document in the browser. Internet Explorer, however, will show and download the document into Adobe as it is supposed to do. I called support at PACER, but they were unable to help me.

I found the support page I found via the search clue "view or download pdf" very helpful.

It led me to download and install a Schubert|it browser plugin which works very well. It has many options, one of which is the choice to download or view the pdf file.

The plugin is free for personal or educational use, although you don't find this out until you start to use it.

  1. Go to Tools > Options
  2. Select Applications panel
  3. Find Adobe Acrobat Document (if you're using Adobe Reader) or PDF files (for other PDF readers) in the list and click on it to select it.
  4. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Action column for the above entry and select Use Adobe Reader (default).

That process completely solved the problem. Thank you very much! I am amazed that support at PACER, the three persons of whom I asked, was so unaware of this work around. If there were some way, I would advise them so that they would be able to help the next person with this problem.

I found the Applications panel under Firefox -> Preferences -> Applications. It wasn't under Tools.
