Details provided in question. It just keeps hanging (not responding) then crashes ever since I put in 5.

I tried uninstalling it and using 3.6 and 4 and no change.

Never had a problem before. No new software was installed to cause conflict. Virus scan is clean. All updates current on Firefox and Windows and Antivirus, etc.

Veery frustrating, enough to send me looking for a new browser much as I prefer FF, but it's a constant issue. Please help so I can stay with FF. Thanks.

I checked out the link and none really seem to apply.

It hangs even after only being used for just a few minutes, so it's not a prolonged use issue;

I'm using Windows 7 on a core i7 processor, Not XP, so it's not that (though I am wondering if FF is not truly compatible with x64?);

and though it seems to hang when loading anything at all, even mozilla's support pages, the proxy setup is manual, Not auto, as it always has been, and it used to work just fine with only the occasional hang before this.

Next suggestion please?

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Uninstalled all plug-ins, uninstalled Firefox 5, reinstalled Firefox 5, still crashes, so it's not the plug-ins. Running in safe mode all the time defeats the purpose of having a good browser. PC is right out of the box, no viruses, Windows 7... don't like IE ... have used Firefox for years. What is the solution, please?

Safe Mode is a debugger. It's not intended to be used as permanent browser, but rather to isolate problems.

If FF runs in Safe Mode, then an Add-on is the cause of the problem because those are the only changes made initially during the test phase. To proceed further, restart it again in that configuration and when you get the menu, checkmark the option: "Disable all add-ons", then click the button called "Make changes and restart".

After that, it's simply a case of re-enabling them one by one until the problem recurs. That will identify the culprit for you.

ok.. i've run it in safe mode, and it still hangs, but instead of freezing completely and never recovering, now it'll hang for several minutes, then i get a page with this error:

The connection has timed out

The server at ****.*****.com is taking too long to respond.

   * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
         moments.
   * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
         connection.
   * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
         that Namoroka is permitted to access the Web.

Try Again

This happens on ANY site, including google, mozilla, yahoo, and many others so it's not a particular site causing the issue. And it's the same as before with hanging up, just getting a different error now...

None of this happened before, nor does it happen with IE... as you can see above, I even tried putting in Namaroka Firefox thinking it might be a x64 compatibility issue, but still the same thing, no changes...

Next please?

Edit: ps. i got no crash reports when i tried to pull that up...

Try creating a new Profile. I had similar issues to you a few weeks back and a new profile fixed the problem for me. See these articles on how to create one and how to retrieve important data such as bookmarks, passwords etc., from the old one.

Have still not been solved... I even tried upgrading to the newest 7.0, but still the application keeps hanging and I have to end task through Windows task Manager (sometimes that won't even shut it off, so then I have to reboot my computer the hard way, by holding down the power button because if I use the shut down command, the hang won't let the computer shut down properly.. then when it powers back up, firefox reopens automatically and freezes again and I have to hard/cold reboot the computer a 2nd time to get things working right again....

I had to stop using it for a while it was getting UnUsable, but I miss FF...

i'm using windows 7 x64, tried several versions of firefox as mentioned in previous posts, have 8Gb ram, intel core i7 processor...

Solutions please??????????

Edit: Add: When i ran it in safe mode, there was no change, same problem...
