Why does Firefox not pick up Flash Plugin?
I am running Linux and I have the flashplayer plugin stored in ./mozilla/plugins. According to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Determining_plugin_directory_on_Linux, Firefox should load it from there. How does Firefox determine is my version of flash will work?

Make sure that you have a 32 bit version of the Flash plugin for a 32 bit Firefox version.
That does not answer the question. I have played around with flash plugins and was able to get flash to work. There were 4 different versions of flash on my pc (spread across multiple directories from different attempts to install flash) I copied all to .moxilla/plugins each with a different extension - .1 , .2, .3, and .4. By renaming them one at a time. I was able to determine the version of 3 of them. When I renamed the last one to .so, FF would not pick it up. I tried FF 3.6.19 and FF 5.
How does FF determine if a plugin is valid?
Does it print a message somewhere for failing plugins?
I am asking this because I have another set of plugins for Google Voice that are not being recognized by FF.
