I guess, it's one of the most asked question. How can i move my profile and the cache location..... and most importand: Why is it not a nativ option in the preference? It's all about speed and security. I use uptodate betaversions on a mac. But that second part of my question is related to pc and mac.

Btw: I know about the cache. Adding the "browser.cache.disk.parent_directory" as a string and adding my location. But i don't know about a about:config setting to move my Profile too.

Why do you want to move your profile folder?

I don't have a Mac to compare, but on Windows, there is a pair of files that stores the path to each profile folder. You can use this shortcut path in the address bar of File Explorer or in the Windows system search box:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox

I suggest setting Windows to show hidden files and folders and all file extensions:

The files installs.ini and profiles.ini store the names and paths to each of your profiles. You would need to update these files in coordination with any folder moves.

As I have no personal experience with the required syntax, I suggest waiting for another volunteer to chime in, or do some web searches for additional advice.

Please bear in mind that certain files may contain hard-coded paths, and in particular, extensions and their data may be affected (disconnected) by folder moves.

Wow, thanks for your instant reply. Sorry for my english, i need a lot of practise.

I have many reasons. First of all is a full control of my data. I could simply wipe out all data if i like and restart. Yes, with the profile manager i can make a fresh profile. But i, and surly many others, like it plain and simple: Delete Folder XYZ and restart firefox. Yeah, i know about restarting FF with some special keyboard action or using the extrem complicated to find "profilemanager". Just deleting some files is easy.

The next reason is a temporäry use of a different profile or an empty. Just copy paste files from my backup location is a common move. It's not about to kill the options we have now. It's all about logical use of something that generates a profil and a cache.

Before you like to answer to this comment in your detailes way, keep in mind that a option in the nativ preference would be easy to implement: Profile Location: Default/Choose Cache Location: Default/Choose

Thanks in advanced!
