How do I disable a certain shortcut?

more options

In Firefox Quantum 70.0 there is a shortcut, "CTRL + Backspace" that I want to disable. It does nothing for me and actually ruins my workflow. Whenever I try to highlight text through CTRL + A then try to press delete it instead activates the useless hotkey, "Delete Word to The Left" which does'nt even delete the word to the left, it instead just brings the cursor to the beginning of the text and deselects.

This only happens in Firefox. In Microsoft Word and Onenote the problem isn't there.

Hmm, interesting, I never noticed this before. So basically, what needs to happen is to always treat Ctrl+Backspace as just a plain Backspace.

I can't figure out a way to do that. I can figure out how to delete the selected text when you press Ctrl+Backspace, but the sample script doesn't allow Undo, so that's not as appealing...

Hi, when I went on to the test page and did CTRL + Backspace the word before the cursor is deleted. However, when I press CTRL + A + Backspace, it does the same behaviour that I described, Firefox just sends the cursor back to the beginning. My goal here is to disable the CTRL + Backspace shortcut completely so that it doesn't interfere with my CTRL + A + Backspace one.

Hmm, it worked for me, although I pressed Ctrl+A first to select, then Ctrl+Backspace to delete. Screenshot attached.

What I'm doing is pressing CTRL + A + Backspace all at the same time, with ctrl being pushed first, A second, then backspace last. I don't want CTRL + Backspace to be set to delete, I just want it to be tied to no shortcut at all.

You want Ctrl+A+Backspace to behave just like Ctrl+A, as though you did not press Backspace? Why is Backspace in the mix?

No. What I want is CTRL + A + Backspace to do the intended, which it does in all other apps except for Firefox, Select all the text, then delete it. The problem in Firefox is that there is already a hotkey assigned to Ctrl + Backspace, so when I am holding CTRL + A + Backspace all at the same time, the Firefox shortcut is executed instead. I want to somehow disable this Firefox shortcut or remap it to something else so that when I am quickly selecting something and then deleting, the shortcut won't activate.

I've found a Reddit post that provides a video and description of the same exact issue I'm having.

Thanks for keeping up with me.

Well, I think the best I could offer you is either:

  • Ctrl+Backspace does nothing at all (you would need to press Backspace without Ctrl to delete the text)
  • Ctrl+Backspace deletes the selected text (without Undo in my script, maybe someone can do better)
