Firefox (61.0.1 on Win10) creates multiple etilqs_xxxxx files used in processes that have unusually high disk usage

As stated above Firefox creates these files and processes and thus slows down my PC significantly, Apps take minutes to load and some like Netflix even crash occasionally since they don't have enough bandwith on the disk to function properly.

When Firefox is closed the problems, as well as the processes, are gone. Also it doesn't seem to have an influence how i use Firefox, even directly after starting it with only one tab open is the same as having open 50 tabs. Yes i already did a reset of Firefox, didn't help.

Another odd thing is that the task manager isn't recognizing it as part of the Firefox process but instead attributes the high disk usage to Windows Defender (Antimalware Service Executable).

Thank you in advance for your help and have a nice day.

Hi, for a change I figure Windows Defender is right on something all things point to malware. etilqs_xxxxx

Please use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech :

Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help :

Post in only 1 forum, then wait.

As there was No info supplied about Extensions try : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/malwarebytes/ May break Video sites will have to go into controls and deactivate for some sites, as will below. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Hi, There is no malware to be found. Just to clearify the xxxxx is meant as placeholder for the random string of numbers and letters that come after the etilqs_ , so there is no file named "etilqs_xxxxx", in fact the lifetime of these files maxes out at about 30 seconds to be replaced by differently named ones.

Also after some more desperate digging i found this: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1441918

Appearantly Firefox, and Chrome in some cases, is able to send Windows Defender into some kind of feedback loop. After i added Firefox and some other things to the exclusion list the problem, while not completely gone, is at least far less persistent and i get periods of usability out of my PC.

At this point i'm honestly not sure if that is really a problem with Firefox or just another problem with Windows, so i don't know what to do with this thread.

Also just in Case you're worried about my PCs security, i got myself another Antivirus after i added the exclusions, so there are no "blind spots".

Those are SQLite temp files (etilqs is sqlite spelled backwards) that are required for normal functioning and should be hidden under normal conditions. If your security software reports them then you should whitelist or ignore them.
