Firefox tabs stuck in 'loading' after 10 minutes of use. Network is working perfectly. Firefox restart solves the problem for 10 minutes, then it occurs again.

After last upgrade 2 days ago to 60.0.1 on a windows 8.1 machine after 10-15 minutes of use, tabs are stuck with the 'loading' animation. Sometimes duplicating the tab 5 times helps and one of the 5 loads, the rest remain stuck. Restarting Firefox and restoring session resets the problem, allowing 10-15 more minutes of normal use before tabs getting stuck again. YouTube videos in tabs that were loaded before they get stuck keep playing normally.

Network connectivity is working fine, other browsers are working fine. This is not a network issue, It's a Firefox issue. I haven't changed any addons or settings from before the update.

How can I roll back or solve this problem?

It's going to sound odd, but have to tried resetting Internet Explorer?

I've found that a lot of issues with network connectivity in Firefox are somehow tied in with Internet Explorer and that they can often be fixed simply by resetting Internet Explorer to the factory default.

Try resetting Internet Explorer to the factory default settings and see if that helps. Read Change or reset Internet Explorer settings from Microsoft for more information.

If that doesn't help, I'd recommend testing Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the issue continues. This will temporarily disable addons and restore certain settings. This would help rule out any issues with your Firefox settings and profile.

For more information on Firefox Safe Mode, please refer to the Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode support documentation.

I don't use internet explorer, I have the whole thing removed using the "add/remove system features" menu

I did try safe mode and it didn't happen. I then deactivated extensions one by one. It seems that Facebook Container 1.3.1 was causing the issue, or at least that disabling it stops it from happening.

Note that 60.0.2 has been released, so maybe first update to that version to see if that helps.

Looks like I spoke too soon, disabling it just makes it take longer to occur, but this bug is still here. Will continue shutting extensions to see if I can find the cause.

Yes, I have upgraded, no luck.

Are you using Honey because that extension has also been reported as a possible culprit?

I use: - adblock plus - foxy gestures - no coin - no script - youtube high definition - tampermonkey - facebook container

The last two are the most recent additions. All the others have been used for years without a problem.

Hi, you have not reported about doing a test in Safe Mode. Please do : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

Not sure how or why, but it seems that facebook container is still active even though it is disabled. Facebook tabs are colored blue and have a tag "Facebook" on them.

I have a strong suspicion this is the culprit because it was the most recent addition before things started to go bad.

Upgraded to 61.0.1 No change.

Any ideas? If it helps, I noticed that as time passes, I need to duplicate a larger number of tabs for them to load. For example after 5-10 minutes, I need to duplicate the tab 2-4 times until I get a tab that is loaded correctly. After 20 minutes I need to duplicate it 10-15 times to get a working one.

It also seems that once a tab is loaded, I can use that specific tab fine, as long as I click on links within that tab. If I use the address bar, or a link that opens in a new tab, it doesn't load.

And lastly, if left open for ~45-60 minutes, all tabs which are stuck in "loading" eventually load.

It's getting super annoying to restart the browser and restore session every 10 minutes, please help me find what is wrong!
