It sounds like the files on your hard drive that contain the e-mails have been corrupted.

Immediately run a full/thorough Check Disk. How to run a "Check Disk" in Windows

This may not fix the files, but at least it will stop more files from being corrupted.

Then: 1. Find & open your Thunderbird Profile folder:

Select Help: Troubleshooting Information from the Thunderbird menu (either from the menu button , on the top right, or the normal menu at the top of the window.)

Under "Application Basics", beside "Profile Folder", click the "Show Profile" button.  This will open a window showing the contents of your Thunderbird Profile folder.

2. Quit Thunderbird, but keep that window open showing your Thunderbird Profile folder.

3. Delete "global-messages-db.sqlite" and "panacea.dat" from the profile folder.

4. Open Thunderbird.

5. Select your e-mail account on the left side in the normal folder view in Thunderbird, then from the menu, select File: Compact Folders.

If your e-mails are still scrambled, then there is probably no way to fix them.

This is the point where you use a backup, if you made one.
