Sorry, I am not having that problem with Firefox 28 or Firefox 30 using a WInXP computer. It may be a "Mac-thing". I will edit the title of this thread to include MAC.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

You can try to delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It's puzzling, because I may get the warning message, but then if I reload bypassing the cache to force a fresh retrieval (once or twice), the site behaves normally.

  • Windows: Ctrl+Shift+r
  • Mac: Command+Shift+r

Or if that doesn't work, opening it in a private window.

I think there's a glitch on the server, but I can't figure out what's going on.

And vice versa. If it starts working, it can stop working again. I tried sending the Chrome 35 user agent to the site and it behaves equally inconsistently. I suspect a server problem.

I spent an hour at the Genius Bar yesterday and after adjusting some settings I was able to get on the websites using Safari and Chrome, but not Firefox. They determined that the websites I was visiting were all created using Square Space and therefore their seems to be a problem between Square Space's server and Firefox 3.0.

Oh, and I'm using a Mac with OS 10.9.4
