I prefer the tabs to be under the address bar on my Firefox. Previously I could simply click or unclick an option to do this, and it remained the same as I upgraded. However, I recently moved to Linux Mint 16, and it had Firefox 24 already installed. I synched my bookmarks, but was unable to locate the option to move the tabs. I actually have the roomy bookmarks toolbar, and the tabs previously sat below it. Ideally, I would like to get them there again.

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Type about:config into address bar

Accept the responsibility thingy.

Enter browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar into search field

Set "true" to "false"

Now, Mozilla WILL, at some point, alter this with possibly every new release until they hard code it so you cannot ever change it at all.

Oh well....

Did you try the steps in this support article: How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox

If the knowledge base doesn't automatically show the correct menus/dialogs for Linux, there is a box on the left side with a drop-down to select Linux as your OS.

Current Firefox versions only show the "Tabs on Top" menu entry in the "View > Toolbars" and "Firefox > Options" menu and in toolbar context menus if the tabs aren't in the default position on top.

If the tabs are on top and the menu entry isn't available and you want to move the tabs below the navigation toolbar then you need to toggle the browser.tabs.onTop pref to false on the about:config page.
A Firefox restart is necessary to update the menu entry to either show or remove it.

Note that this pref will no longer have effect when the Australis code lands on the release channel with Firefox 29.

Thank You! This worked and my world is OK again!

I really prefer the tabs this way. If the upgrade to 29 loses this, I will be lost or simply will not upgrade. I am not particularly tech savvy, but I do a lot of research on the web, and keeping my interface tthe same lets me concentrate on my information rather than the tech involved. That's one of the reasons I switched to Linux - the ability to keep things pretty much the same without forced, crazy changes to my operating system, or my environment, and the ability to change them back if I wish. Some change is nice, even great, but forced change is not.

Thank You jscher2000 and cor-el for your help!

You can use the Classic Theme Restorer extension in Firefox 29 and later to restore some lost features including tabs on top.

For Mac users and if you like your chosen Theme.....

Simply:

go to about:config Click "I'll be careful, I promise" In the search bar type: "browser.tabs.onTop" Change Value to: false

Which is why everyone should be on the ESR release only. Im updated to the current version.

This will enable you to stay just ahead of the coming bitchfest followed behind of mozilla changing things up too much.

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

Another reason NOT TO AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE to the latest and non-greatest. I always have this debate....until I said..."I told you so"...to the impatient obsessive compulsive updaters. Apple has been notorious now for removing features...I EXPECT this is coming soon to Mozilla!!

So for all those other updated users....how do they correct this?

....because changing the value....browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar...did not work on another machine I have.

There is NO reason the tabs should be on the very top. This makes no sense whatsoever for working in multiple pages. You have to drag a mouse FARTHER .....hundreds of times a day across that space. Especially, if you have 3 custom toolbars!!!
