I went to the new Healthcare.gov site this week and added this as one of my homepage tabs: https://www.healthcare.gov/marketplace/global/en_US/registration#signUpStepOne

I can now, no matter what I try, eliminate this tab from showing up when I start Firefox (set to use "these" pages).

I completely uninstalled Firefox, eliminated the word from my registry, did a registry cleaning then re-installed WATERFOX and the damn tab is still there!

I entered ABOUT:CONFIG and searched for and deleted any applicable entries and it STILL shows up.

HELP!

Kevin

That URL is included among the items submitted with your question. It is set as a part of your 3 homepage selections (see underlined item below). The separator (keyboard character "|") is used to separate multiple homepages that open when you start Firefox.

See - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page

Uninstalling Firefox will not fix that issue as your profile is in a different location and will not be removed unless you choose that during the uninstall process. Doing so will remove permanently your bookmarks, passwords, extensions and other settings.

Do you have Firefox or Waterfox installed?

The information submitted with your question also indicates that you are using Firefox 18 -- the current version is Firefox 24. To avoid security problems caused by running the old version with known security problems that have been fixed, you should update to the current Firefox version.

Well...hmmmm...I appreciate your response, but there is no solution in what you suggest. 1) YES, it is listed as a tab of my home page because, as I wrote, I can not get rid of it! 2) I am running Waterfox Portable, which is current at version 18...as the document reflects. 3) I deleted every file and folder on my computer that held Firefox items...profile/settings/bookmarks, everything! (sorry if that wasn't apparent in my posting.

See - How to set multiple homepages . Try resetting your homepage, making sure that only the webpages that you want as your homepages are open when you click the Use Current Pages button.

What your suggesting is what I CAN NOT DO! No matter what tabs I use...even none at all, the site keeps returning.

Maybe I'm not speaking English...

You should be able to remove this page from the Home page setting in Options > General

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

You can also drag a single tab on the Home button on the Navigation Toolbar (far right) to set this one tab as the home page (you need to confirm this).

Waterfox 24.0 has been available since 2013-10-07}

As for your homepage problem, I do not use Waterfox, just like theedmeister and many other users on this forum.

However, try this step-by-step:

  1. Start Waterfox and there should be 3 tabs per your setup
  2. Close the tab for https://www.healthcare.gov/...
  3. You now have only the first and third sites listed above, go to the option to set your homepage (in Firefox it is under Options and on the General tab)
  4. In the "Startup" section of the General Tab, click on "Use Current Pages"

That should reset your homepage to only the first and third items listed above. Now, exit from Waterfox, then start Waterfox and see if only 2 tabs open.

If the above does not work for you please include in your reply exactly where in above 4 steps you encounter a problem, or if after restarting Waterfox, what pages initially open.

I appreciate the time everyone is taking to respond. Unfortunately, you are all saying the same thing. I have done all these things. I know how to set and change and re-set my homepage- THAT is not the problem, in that, the steps all SEEM to work, but don't. Here's a new revelation: I CAN change the homepage tabs. I can exit Waterfox, re-start and all is as I set it. I can do this multiple times, but then: IF I RE-BOOT my computer and re-start Waterfox, the old, unwanted tabs show up as if I never changed them. This (above) is the state right now.

Sorry that we couldn't help you, but both Waterfox and "Portable" are 3rd party applications - they are not made by Mozilla and are beyond the scope of this support forum.

Firefox Portable support is here - http://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable

And it looks like Waterfox support is here - http://www.waterfoxproject.org/support.php
with a support forum thread here - http://www.overclock.net/t/975626/waterfox-24-0-7-october-firefox-64-bit

Maybe one of those support avenues can help you - but please divulge all applicable information up front unlike your postings here.

1st Waterfox
2nd Portable
3rd no unwanted change until the PC is re-booted

Thank-you. It was not my intention to withhold anything. I updated my posts as I discovered new issues.
