I am having a problem with Firefox that makes no sense. I cannot recall having this problem when I previously had Firefox (I used Chromium for a while, but switched back today).

My problem is that some things will not save in Firefox. I have a couple of add-ons installed that have buttons in the main window. I have them in a certain order, but when I restart Firefox they go to a different order...it is really weird.

The other problem is I have the DuckDuckGo extension installed. It works great aside from the fact that none of the settings take effect after Firefox has been restarted. They work right after installing, or when I change one of the settings, but when I restart Firefox, they do not take effect.

I have tried what seems like everything. I completely removed Firefox with CCleaner and Revo Uninstaller, restarted Firefox, created a new profile, disabled my antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials), reinstalled Firefox (deleting the Program Files folder and then running the installer again), everything it seems. Nothing works. I even restarted my PC hoping it would work.

I am at a loss on what to do here. Any help is much appreciated.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

Microsoft Security Essentials. I forgot to mention I deleted the localstore.rdf file and that did not work either. The link is broken, btw. :)

The link works fine for me.

Did you ever use other security software?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started.

Can I check "Safe Startup" in the MSConfig program and then reboot to run in safe mode? After booting into safe mode, what do I do?

You can check if you still have this problem after closing and restarting Firefox and possibly rebooting another time in Safe Mode.

So if I check the box "Safe Boot" in the MSConfig program and reboot, it will boot into safe mode?

Nevermind, figured out it does reboot in safe mode if I do that. I will give it a try and get back to you in a moment.

Rebooted in Safe Mode and I still have the problem. :(

Does Firefox create a new localstore.rdf file when you close Firefox or make changes to the toolbar configuration?

more options

If this is the case then you should also keep the toolbar configuration.

Is that still not happening?

Do you mean is the problem still happening? If so, then yes.

If this helps any, I opened up the localstore.rdf file and the addon button that keeps reverting back is not in the file. All the other ones are.
