Firefox browser taking so long to print html report

more options

I am using Firefox 18.+ version on Windows XP machine. My application is reporting tool. Whenever I try to print the html report, the firefox browser is taking close to 4min to start printing the page. The same report getting printed in Crome browser within few seconds. IE browser is taking close to 30 seconds. I tried followed the steps provided by the Mozilla support team (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-printing-problems-firefox?esab=a&s=slow+printing&r=0&as=s ). But there is no improvement. I verified that the printer has no issues, only in Firefox its taking very long time to send the document to printer. Thanks for your help.

Some page structures may take longer to re-render for printing than others. Is the report especially long? Does it use tons of HTML tables?

Although the time to get back control of your browser is extremely varied, I wonder whether the total time from starting to print to getting the output is that different. Do you have a PDF printer driver installed? That might be a way to test it without felling too many trees.

Thanks for the reply. And sorry for getting back late on this issue. My report is long and not uses tones of html tables. the same report is printing quickly in crome, IE browsers only in firefox(16, 17, 18+versions i tested) its taking such a long time to prepare the document for printer not for printing i.e., the long waiting time taken just to prepare the document for printer not actual printing. i am saving the trees by cancelling the report once its getting loaded in printer.

I'm not sure we can investigate this properly without access to the report, which I assume is not readily available to the public...

Could you test in a "clean" Firefox profile and see whether you can replicate the problem there? To do that, use the profile manager:

  • Exit Firefox
  • Start > Run > firefox.exe -P {ENTER}
  • Create a new profile with the default location setting
  • Start Firefox in the new profile and try to print

Any difference?

To switch back to your normal profile, exit Firefox, restart the profile manager and start up in your regular profile. You can return to your previous point using History > Restore Previous Session (assuming it was not a private session).

Hi, Yeah the report is not for public. but i tried to get the number of tables in the report. it contains only one but 800+ rows inside the table. Also i tried your recommendation of adding a new profile. Both in the new profile and in the default profile the time taken to prepare the document for printer is same (~2min). Do you want me to try any other options or recommendation. Thanks for your help.

No other ideas, sorry. Even if I could see the document, I suspect my thoughts about changing it wouldn't be relevant (i.e., the developer is unlikely to change the document just to speed up printing in Firefox...).
