When I try to download anything using Firefox a pop-up screen will appear stating, "You must first choose an application." but does not provide choices.

It does not matter what website I try to download/install software from it keeps giving me a pop-up with the same message. However it does not provide me with any recommended applications to run the program with. This is not only impacting what I can download but all will not let me upload pix to sites such as snapfish and will not allow me to download any new browsers.

You can also reset firefox which doesn't delete any personal preferences, or settings.

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.
