I am rather a novice with Ubuntu but I will attempt to help.

I have Ubuntu 12.04LTS installed with Firefox on it (I am using 64 bit versions not 32 bit). Until recently I was using the Ubuntu Firefox 12 then 13 without problems, but have recently reconfigured to use the Ubuntu Aurora.

I have only very rarely had any sort of crash. Have a look at Firefox Crashes that contains troubleshooting suggestions, and importantly explains about the crash IDs.

Go to about:crashes by entering that in the address bar and hitting return. Paste a couple of the most recent crash IDs into your reply, the information should help to determine the cause of your crash, and may offer links to solutions.

Just duplicating my last post with more detail, using a new forum feature.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey guys, this was my mum posting, I looked at the issue and it seems the whole computer was freezing due to a graphics driver issue. I'm gonna try and fix it or ask in the Ubuntu forums. Thanks for the replies! My mum was happy about the quick reaction. :)

OK so suggestions are now

  1. check that the graphics drivers are up to date,
  2. and as a troubleshooting/workaround consider trying with hardware acceleration off (assuming it is on at present.)

See the articles

Are you having the problem when other applications are in use or is it only Firefox that locksup the system ?

P.S.

If everything freezes try selecting the Ubuntu 2d display option instead of the 3d display option, that is selectable as you log in to Ubuntu, and will put less strain on graphics.
