This is more a nuisance than a problem. Today Firefox updated to 12.0 , and a few plugins updated with it. Suddenly I found that a heap of things were reset to FF defaults:

sync - that needed setting up again home page - reset to Mozilla history settings reset from my custom settings

and a few more. This also happened before a while back (can't remember when and didn't take notes) on this machine, perhaps also on my work Windows machine. It might be the FF update that's doing this, or one of the plugins.

Is this a known problem, and if so does anyone know what causes it and how it can be forestalled? It's not a big deal, but it is a minor pain.

Cheers

Fred

Thanks for the pointer. That is a useful page, but doesn't help with this problem, which has recurred just now - my plugins Zotero, Web Developer and User Agent Switcher updated, and some of my prefs went West.

I did follow the advice on the page "Preferences not saved". The user.js file doesn't exist in the profile folder so couldn't edit it. There is a prefs.js file which was updated this morning, when the addons updated, and I can open it in a text editor so it's not corrupt. The file permissions are read/write for me.

I think I'll just have to put up with the minor inconvenience of resetting prefs on updates. Firefox is pretty useful to me as a user and web developer, that I can put up with the occasional glitch...

You can still try to rename or move the prefs.js file to see if it helps.
