I'm still on V 3.6.13 although "automatic update" is ticked. How do I get to V.6?

Started having problems uploading to Flickr - stalls after about 300KB. Checked with my wife's laptop and she has no problem with the same photos and same internet connection. Found that she is on V. 6 of Firefox but, despite "auto update" being selected I'm still on V 3.6.13 (since Oct 2010). How do I upgrade to new version? Do I have to go via V 4, then 5 etc.?
