I used to open a new tab by double clicking on the tab bar in previous versions. I also want to set that feature in firefox 5.

cheers Asif

Found it. However by doing this, you will not be able to have the Firefox Orange button too.

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar

-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> select Menu bar

You don't need to put the New Tab button (+) on the Tab Strip either. Check and tell if its working.

That is a standard feature in Firefox 5, as it was in earlier versions of Firefox.

hi all, thanks for your replies. however it didn't help me. Let me describe bit more ellaborately. I am using Firefox 5. I managed to set the "+" (Open a new tab icon) on the tab bar. However I want to open a new tab by double clicking on the empty area of the tab bar. This option was open in previous versions(ff3/ff4) of firefox. But in firefox5 this option is somehow hidden somwhere. I have attached an image to make it more clearer.

I know this feature is still exist in ff5. Because I am using this feature in my office ff5. Few days ago I installed ff5 in my home pc but couldn't manege to find/work.

Looking forward to your replies. btw I love the feature "Pin as App Tab" . it's cool :)

Many thanks Asif

you are so tricky man :) yes it worked :D thanks for that. Although in my office pc it is working both way - with/without Orange button. but at home it's just working with your way. I don't care, since I can now open a new tab by double clicking there :)

double cheers- Asif

If the window is maximized then the Tab Bar is placed on the title bar if you have the Tab Bar on top.

You can set the pref browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar to false on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
