Have been unsuccessful many times in updating firefox. I get the messages: do you want to replace earlier version? I click yes, then get message stating I don't have permission to install the newer version. There has been no asking for a password to install this on my Mac, which is what I assume may be needed for the installation. How can I achieve this?

At times I have been offered ( by firefox) an opportunity to connect with their updater, but this connection has lasted 30 min., with no success, so I have closed the window.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

How about getting google chrome, removing Mozilla, then downloading the latest version, and then removing google chrome. That should do the trick. =D

While that should work, and I already have chrome, and safari, I want to maintain my firefox bookmark set-up. When imported them into chrome, they were formatted a bit differently. I fear that if I trash Mozilla, I will lose that familiar formatting.

Thanks for the idea, though...LK
