I have lost the very large "Bookmarks" button on the top, far right side of the Firefox 4.0.1 browser. It used to be below the "Home" button. I literally lost it today, 5-13-2011, and have no clue why it suddenly dissappeared.

I have closed and reopened the browser numerous times and the button has simply ceased to exist. I cannot think of anything I may have done purposely or inadvertently to make it go away. I have looked pretty extensively (I think...) all over the browser's options and commands and have not seen anything that would give me the choice of making that big ol' handy "Bookmarks" button either be visible or go into hiding. It had been there ever since I upgraded to 4. I have had some other things mysteriously move around or change but they have usually quit fooling around and gone back the way they should have been.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm chemically unbalanced. : /

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar

If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear

Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

Thank you! That partially worked to a point. The layout is a bit different now since I had to revert back to the default set. I have the bookmarks button back where it should have been, it's just much smaller. No big deal at all and there were a couple of other minor adjustments to make to get things close to how I was used to having it.

I appreciate the advice very much and I'm thankful you had responded as quick as you did. It saved me from banging my head on the keyboard repeatedly.

Thanks, Best Wishes, and Best Regards! -Chuckula (sorry the screen shot and pen work are so...weird.)

You're welcome

Firefox 4 has two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu.
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.

You can drag the Bookmarks menu button with the drop marker in the Customize window from the toolbar palette on a toolbar (e.g. Navigation Toolbar or Tab Bar or to the left side of the Bookmarks Menu Items).
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the menu bar is hidden.
If the bookmarks toolbar is visible then the default bookmarks menu button will appear on the right hand side of the Bookmarks Toolbar as part of the Bookmarks Toolbar Items.

Yes. Made better organization just now by leaving the drop down menu Bookmark on the upper right and sliding the side bar-type back into the Customize menu. That has kept the upper right of the browser screen less cluttered. Below the search window now is only the drop down-type Bookmarks button and my Read it Later button.

You have been a great help and are thoroughly appreciated, cor-el. Best of Luck and Best of Wishes! -Chuckula
