The custom toolbar that I created continually disappears. This problem has increased since Firefox 4 has been released. Sometimes the first Firefox window opens with my custom toolbar appearing properly. However subsequent windows opened will have my Custom toolbar missing. When missing the toolbar's name does not appear in the View/Toolbars flyout menu. But it does appear in another window open at the same time. This new version of Firefox (4.0) seems to be the most buggy version I have ever encountered. I can say that this particular problem has caused me to reevaluate whether Firefox is the browser I should continue with or should I change to Chrome or Internet Explorer. While each of these browsers have improved, Firefox has acquired flaws. It has been suggested that it is the various add-ins or extensions that cause the problem. If that is the problem, then Firefox needs to evaluate each extension before allowing it to be added to firefox. At one time, the ability to add features to Firefox through the add-in or extension feature was considered to be an advantage. But it appears that this is no longer the case. I do not have the time to diagnose and remove errant Firefox add-ins. Firefox could begin to lose its loyal fan base if it does not begin to validate and approve add-ins and extensions. I simply cannot devote an hour a day to solving Firefox problems. This is not the first time I've reported this problem, and frankly the responses have been less than satisfactory. It's clear that some respondents do not completely read or understand the problem as described. I have saved my profiles file and replaced the file when the custom toolbar is lost, but this does not have any effect. Firefox will open the original file with the custom toolbar, but any subsequent window will fail to include the missing custom toolbar, and the toolbar is NOT present in the available dropdown list when selecting View/Toolbars. On every occasion when I've attempted to access 'Live Chat', through the help menu, it is listed as closed. It's time to either resolve the issue; admit you cannot; or close Mozilla down, and admit you are unable to provide the necessary support to allow users to use Firefox without these continual anomalies that make the product difficult to use without problems.

I have tried the solution at the listed link and it does not solve the problem. As I said in my post, I have also saved a complete backup of my Firefox profile(s) and replacing the active profile with the backup, does not resolve the problem either.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I think the problem is solved. Here is what I know: I did create a new profile, but rather than bringing all of my old information into the new profile, I started from scratch (except for bookmarks) and reloaded add-ons, one add-on at a time. Things were fine until I added Google Toolbar for Firefox 7.1.20101113Wb1 . I immediately began to experience problems with losing my custom toolbar. I removed the Google toolbar and no more problem. Continuing to install my add-ons that I previously had in Firefox, everything continued to work fine, until I added PDF Download 3.0.0.2, when again I began to receive problems with my custom toolbar disappearing. After removing PDF Download 3.0.0.2, my custom toolbar no longer disappeared. It has been 3 days and my custom toolbar is still present with no additional problems.

At this time I must conclude that Google Toolbar for Firefox 7.1.20101113Wb1 & PDF Download 3.0.0.2 don't play well with others, and were the source of my problem.
