Firefox won't refresh, opens to a blank page (not home) and all navigation buttons are unuseable and greyed out. What's wrong?

For some strange reason, if I open up firefox this issue is present even after an uninstall and reinstall. I'm using 4.0

However, if I open firefox after the "non-working" window is open, it opens normally and will work in that second window. I have no idea why this is happening and any assistance would be wonderful.

Please try starting Firefox in Safe Mode, do the problems go away?

Yes Shusseina, in safe mode Firefox is working properly. As soon as I close safe mode however and reopen it normally, the problem persists.

I've been having this same problem over the last few day. Every time I first load firefox after restarting my laptop, it opens in a tiny window and I have to hit the maximize button. It doesn't open my homepage, it opens just a blank tab (even though my options menu is set to open homepage). Also every time I load firefox, not just initial startup after restart, I have to make it reshow the menu tab and my bookmarks sidebar. Then there's also the issue where the Navigation bar, other than website addresses, doesn't work for any of the buttons (back, forward, reload).

Try going to about:config and change browser.sessionhistory.max_entries 0 to browser.sessionhistory.max_entries 999

If Firefox works fine in SafeMode, but not in the normal mode, your problem is probably caused by an add-on. You need to do additional troubleshooting.

It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).
