I have firefox 3.6.10 installed on my mac os 10.5.8 (with no add-ons.. at least none that i am aware of as I have only downloaded the browser). Recently it has started doing strange things, particularly in facebook, ebay & paypal. like it will sometimes (not always but its getting quite frequent) show text only & in a completely different layout.. or jumbled all over the top of other text.. Or it will show the image & upper ebay part of a listing but not the actual description from the seller.. I have opened safari & its doing the same thing.. maybe even worse (though i do have a quite old version of safari as i never use it & thus never update it). All this makes me think i must be missing an update of something firefox & safari use to download pages correctly, but when i check software update nothing seems to be internet specific that i need to update.. any ideas please?

  • "Clear the Cache": Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

i tried the two steps you mentioned of clearing cache & cookie history but got no changes.. i havent tried safe mode because i dont have any firefox add-ons attached anyway..

You can try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the Safe mode start window.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

Ok ive tried both things you mentioned. restarting in safe mode & resetting all preferences.. & creating a new profile. It still gives me the same problems. As i mentioned its not with all sites, pretty much just ebay & paypal now (same company). facebook seems to be working better.. MAYBE its a known problem with the latest firefox & ebay??

anyone else got any idea..? Ive now completely reinstalled the OS 10.5.8 from the ground up clean. I've downloaded all the mac updates for this OS. I've downloaded & installed firefox 3.6 & to be honest its actually worse with those sites now. & ive double checked with safari & it has the same problems with those site only. Which indicates to me that its something to do with cookies or something on those sites, but ive tried clearing cookies & cache repeatedly & i get no joy.. really annoying.. any help please.

I'm having the same problem. Some websites, particularly facebook, take forever to load and when they finally do it's in text format only (and quite unusable). I've searched the internet for solutions. It seems the problem is widespread but no one knows how to sort it out, or if they have figured it out they haven't come back to post how.

@oldbrowndog.. did you find out the cause of this or a solution?

My firefox just updated to 3.6.17 (or 3.06.17) and now the ebay auction pages are all screwed up. There's a lot of white space with the text jumbled over the pics, etc. It's not loading properly at all.

However, all other ebay pages are working just fine (homepage, my ebay, messages, search results, etc). Paypal also looks fine for me.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

I have been having the same problem for about a month. I tried all those things plus I tried a different web browser and deleted Java and then up dated with new Java. and that did not work either. Then someone told me to do a hard start ( Up plug and plug back in) of my DSL box and Router box. Now it works fine. If that doesn't work, Call you internet provider and have them walk you though, on how to reset your Router box Then you should do a hard start again of your DSL box and Router box.

I and a customer of mine have this same problem. I am running Windows 7 and while Firefox won't load Facebook correctly IE9 and Chrome work fine. My laptop doesn't have this problem. My customer is running Windows XP. All browsers do the same thing on Facebook. This started happening to both of us last week. I have tried all the solutions in this thread on both machines to no avail. Only Facebook is affected. No other web-sites are affected by this problem on either machine.
