Just started new (never used) HP Win Vista computer for couple days, installed Firefox 3.6.8, downloading drivers from couple websites. As soon as I save the file to be downloaded, Download pops up with the file but stating "cancelled" until I click the little blue Retry button at the right and it starts downloading. As soon as downloading completes, the file, which I have been watching in the intended location, simply disappears. Searching everywhere in Windows including unindexed locations finds it nowhere. Everything hold up now ... any ideas?

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files (Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows)

Thanks, cor-el. Though disabling my anti-virus software didn't help, the mozillazine document did. The screen illustration there shows exactly my problem and resetting system internet security settings solved it. Thanks again!
