I am receiving emails/spam addressed to other users in my InBox.

For some reason I am starting to get emails addressed to other people. To be clear, our names are similar but not exact. For example, the email is addressed to [edited] @AOL.com or something close to it. The email addressed to that person shows up in my Inbox.I would like to know how can I stop this from happening and why did it start in the first place. Also, has this happened to other users? Is there anyway to test my email to see if it has been compromised?

A lot of spammers split up their address lists into large groups and generate a single message to a bunch of people. Some of the addresses will be in the To field, some in CC, and many in BCC, which is not displayed. If their list is alphabetical, then you see the pattern you've noticed.

I don't think it's any kind of personal attack or indicates any compromise, other than your email address ending up on one or more lists. Reporting the message to your email service as junk/spam/phishing/scam/etc. will help them filter these out. Until the spammers tweak the message and they start coming through again...
