When I started my computer this morning and opened Thunderbird, it showed an update to 102.5 32bit. My Thunderbird is blank yet I can hear it say I have new mail. I am on an Acer laptop running Win10, 64bit. I have restarted Thunderbird and computer more than once, but when I click HELP and "about Thunderbird" it shows "restart to update Thunderbird".

UPDATED I downloaded 102.5 64 bit, but still have the same result. Only the folder column shows, but nothing in it. The same result when I click HELP and "about Thunderbird" it shows "restart to update Thunderbird". I can still open my address book, and my calendar...I really don't want to lose either of those. I am adding two more images, one a screenshot of the opened Thunderbird. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That error message does mention many things to do with the calendar.

Have you ever used the Calendar ?

  • Menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • Under 'Application Basics' - half way is Profile Folders - click on 'Open Folder' (Windows OS)

In a Mac it may be called 'Open Finder' In Linux it may be called 'Open directory'

window opens showing contents of your profile name folder

  • Exit Thunderbird now - this is important
  • click on 'calendar-data' folder to see contents.

The file called 'local.sqlite' has all calendar stuff.

  • Please rename the 'local.sqlite' as 'local.sqlite.old'
  • Click on 'backup' folder

You should see a file called 'local.v22.sqlite'

  • Copy the 'local.v22.sqlite' file
  • go back up to the 'calendar-data' folder
  • paste the 'local.v22.sqlite' file into the 'calendar-data' folder
  • then rename the 'local.v22.sqlite' file as 'local.sqlite'

start Thunderbird using 'Run as Adminstrator'. Note: right click on Thunderbird icon and it should offer 'Run as Adminstrator'.

check the error console and post an image of what it shows. 'Tools' > 'Developer Tools' > 'Error Console'

Sometimes deleting specific files and restarting using 'Run as Adminstrator' works.

In other cases, there is a problem with the calendar, so needing to replace a file with a backup and then start using 'Run as Adminstrator'.

I can offer more specific advice after seeing what is shown in the Error console.

Thank you so very much. I am not very handy with technology (due to advanced age) but you explained it in terms I was able to follow, even though a bit hesitantly so that I made sure I did each step correctly.

I heaved a huge sigh of relief when Thunderbird opened looking "normal" again. I do use my calendar a lot (google calendar) and was relieved to find it still works like before.

I cannot thank you enough for enabling me to use Thunderbird again!!
