For the last month, when I use Firefox and DuckDuckGo as my browser, on my MacBookPro Catalina 10.15.7 an image appears that says "Secure Connection Failed"

Sometimes, if I click on "try again" i will get the website I am seeking.... this could just be AOLMAIL... or Marketwatch... or Reuters..... But this happens about once in 100 tries.

What has gone wrong with Firefox and DuckDuckGo?

That has been the best safe browser system in the world, but now something is seriously wrong....

How do I get the system working as it did for so many years?

Disable DuckDuckGo. Is the problem still there?

Does this still happen with the DuckDuckGo PE extension disabled ?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
