When Thunderbird downloads my email it attaches some strange dates. this is my 3 day trying to figure out why. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results. There are 16 eamils currently in my inbox all with different dates. The dates are in attached image. The only correct date in the one dated 05/03/2022.

Problem solved (I think) Attached 3 images of current settings and results. mail.ui.display.dateformat.default 2 mail.ui.display.dateformat.thisweek 2 mail.ui.display.dateformat.today 2

The following setting did not have a value. I set the value to true and changed the above values all to 2. This produced the short date version I was looking for. So far all the previously downloaded email have the correct short dates and time listed.

mailnews.display.original_date true

Received is already there since I have already attempted that fix. I am attaching a new image. This one starts with the only correct date of 05/03/2022 and ends with the date Thunderbird attached to your message of 50/04/2022. The order of the messages received today are as follows. 38/04/2022 06/04/2022 12/04/2022 50/04/2022

All of the above dates should be 05/04/2022. All of the message headers list the date as Wednesday May 4 (time stamp) 2022.

Time Stamp = the time it was received which is not in error on any of the messages. I have also attempted the clean install process that has been suggested elsewhere.

I've never seen anything like that before. Try repairing a folder and see if outcome is the same. Also try troubleshoot mode Troubleshoot Mode Thunderbird

Already tried both of those suggestions as well. I have no idea of where this is coming from. This is my third day of attempting to get this worked out. I have uninstalled both by the uninstall in Windows and the delete thunderbird folder uninstall and nothing seems to change this. When I reinstall all the emails are still there so perhaps it's something in the registry causing this????? I just don't know what thunderbird would have done to my registry.

Uninstalling Thunderbird does not remove your profile folder. See Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data. It only removes its program files, leaving your data untouched, so that when reinstall it, it reloads your profile with everything it had (acccounts, messages, settings etc). It has nothing to do with the Registry. To get rid of those and start afresh, you have to manually delete (or rename) the profile folder to make it unavailable so that Tbird creates a new blank one for a fresh start. Alternatively, you could just use the Profile Manager to create and launch a new profile for testing. See Profile Manager - Create and remove Thunderbird profiles

What I know is that Tbird uses your system's date/time (locale) settings to display the dates, and it doesn't modify them. It could be a Windows bug or Thunderbird bug. You'll have to do some testing to confirm, but if it's a Thunderbird bug in a recent update/release, we would be seeing lots of similar reports here. So far, this is the first of its kind that I've come across.

The date and time stamp in outlook are fine and the computer clock displays the correct date and time. I have previously done the folder delete, the uninstall and then both folder delete/uninstall. Nothing seems to change. Unless you have any other suggestion I guess my next step is to restore the registry to a pre thunderbird date and start over. I'm not going to do that tonight but will tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it works out.

I have not restored my registry yet but found a solution to my problem with the dates. Not a perfect one but one I can live with. The first image is the current settings in mail.ui.display.dateformat.default which is currently set to 0 (this is set to 2 by default) mail.ui.display.dateformat.thisweek which is currently set to 1 (this is set to 2 by default) mail.ui.display.dateformat.today which is currently set to 0 (this is set to 0 by default)

Default and todaysetting seem to have no berring on what the date displayed is. Only thisweek controls what the dates look like. The second image is what the dates look like with these settings and as long a thisweek is set to 1 it does not matter what number you put in the other 2. If thisweek is set to any other number then you get the previous strange dates. While these settings produce the long date it is better than the alternative. If you could tell me what other settings are linked to these I may be able to figure out what is really going on.
