address book will not store a hotmail address correctly in a list if it has an underscore in address
When I enter an address like fred_bloggs@hotmail.com into a mailing list in Thunderbird, it gets automatically altered to "fred_bloggs@hotmail.com <fred <fred_bloggs@hotmail.com>" [sic - no closing >]. If I enter fred.bloggs@hotmail.com it is ok - but it's the wrong address! Thunderbird 91.7.0 (64-bit) running under Windows10 Home 21H2 on Dell Inspiron 3891 8gb RAM. I see there was a fix in this area in 91.7.0. </p>

I can't reproduce this: if I open a mailing list and add fred_bloggs@hotmail.com, then close the list and open it, it appears correct as in the attached picture. TB 91.7/W10. Same result if fred_bloggs@example.org is a contact in the address book and added to the list by drag and drop.
Does the same thing happen in safe/troubleshoot mode (hold Shift when launching TB)?

Hi SF - thanks for your reply. You are right, fred_bloggs... does work ok, but it didn't before. I did try entering troubleshoot mode and it was the same. This was after looking at address book and finding four entries for the real address I was trying to add (for my wife - her id). I also tried deleting these and exiting and restarting a couple of times, but it persisted. I played around using a period rather than underscore, and that seemed ok. However, I did not send an email to that (fictional) address. Yet when I looked again at the address book just now (the problem was still there) a second address using period was there. I deleted it and it now works ok. So, sorry to waste your time, but... something happened... I removed duplicates and did the equivalent of pulling the plug out a few times, removed that odd variant, and now it works. Thanks anyway!
