I found the solution and "fixed" the issue but my question is WHY should I have to follow a series of instructions just to continue enjoying Firefox as it has been. I wish to type my search in the Google window and found it very annoying to have my search jump to the address bar which is all black. Not everyone has a large screen and great eye site. Why not add a simple, user friendly, option button? The following response worked but WHY is it a process and not a check box choice?

"There is an option to turn that off at the moment, but I don't know whether it is a permanent option: (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk. (2) In the search box in the page, type or paste handoff and pause while the list is filtered (3) Double-click the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar preference to switch the value from true to false "

Hey there!

We aren't employees of Mozilla but volunteers. But I believe the reason is not many people bother about it.
