Bookmarks Issue

more options

Hi i am experiencing a weird thing for the last 20 days or so.See as part of my work flow i created some folders for the bookmarks and i am bookmarking the pages depending upon the category or folders i created respectively.Somehow for the past 20 days or so when i ever i hit Ctrl+D to save the bookmark its showing the previous folder name in which i saved the earlier bookmark.Previously it used to show blank and from the drop down i used to select the appropriate folder to save the bookmark to the particular folder. Is it a bug or something i need to fix it ?

Note: Please see the attached image i tried to bookmark this particular page and its already showing the previous bookmarked folder. On the attachment I hide it for the privacy sake with red color.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards Raja

Hi, it's not a bug! When you click on the star or Ctrl+D, the bookmark by default, will now go into the last used location - prior to Firefox 85 this was 'Other Bookmarks' - so not sure why you say it showed 'blank' before, or the bookmarks bar if you don't have any bookmarks at all, however if you wish it to go to a different location, keep your mouse pointer over the dialog box to prevent it from disappearing, then to see all your folders/locations, use the upper, downward pointing arrow on the far right, to select a location - which will now become the new default location > Done.

Thank you for the prompt reply.Yes it used to say 'Other Bookmarks' not 'blank' Correction. So i have to downgrade to the older version ?. This new option is weird and hope in next version they should revert it back to the old option. I am still waiting for few more replies to see if i find any alternatives

Thank you

You can click the first arrow to open a list with previously used locations.

There is a pref that defaults to 7 to set the number of entries to show in this list of recently used folders.

Users are experimenting with different workarounds. Some ideas I have not tested myself:

(1) Use the https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-bookmark-folder/ extension to set a single default folder.

Note that there is a bug in version 3.0.0-3.1.0 of this extension related to bookmark imports/restores. If you are performing these bulk operations, disable the extension before you run them; you can re-enable it afterwards.

(2) Set and lock the browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation preference to Other Bookmarks ("unfiled") using Autoconfig files.
