TB 78.6.1 Mac OS 10.11.6. I regularly get situations where TB says "The folder *** cannot be compacted because another operation is in progress. Please try again later." I press "OK", and it says the same thing for another folder. And another. And another. On and on. The only way I can get out of it is by quitting and restarting TB.

I have several accounts. Two POP and one IMAP.

What's going on? This is pretty annoying and also pretty silly. As far as I know, I don't have any other operations going on.

Uh, let's try this again. I KNOW what compaction is, why it is done and how it works. I do NOT know what these errors are that I'm getting.

That error means the folder that Thunderbird wants to compact is in use in another (Thunderbird) process, such as fetching new mail or moving messages around using filters.

Well, that's sort of what the error says. But when I get it, Thunderbird isn't obviously doing anything else. Doesn't seem that I can wait it out. If I wait for a minute and then press OK, I just get another error.

I saw it posted that the solution to this is just to dump all the msf files, restart, and recompact. I've done that, and we'll see if the problem goes away. If that's the solution, then it just means that TB has just been somehow crapified, and needs to be reset.

Yeah, removing the msf files is one of the possible solutions.
