Hi, I have tried to delete an account, but something is not quite right.

The account has disappeared from the side bar, but still is present in the account settings (see image) As an effect, any time I want to download all messages for all accounts, I get an error message (authentication failed) for this 'ghost account' which is about right as the mail account is now non-existent.

As I cannot select the account in the side bar, the account settings - when selected- will point to another - active- account and none of the actions in the settings menu will pertain to the account to be deleted.

I would be grateful for any tips on how to get permanently rid of the account.

Which sidebar are you talking about? I can see the account in both the Folder Pane ("sidebar"?) and the Account Settings dialog.

OK, so I'm not familiar with the Thunderbird terms. My problem is with the vrgvr@xs4all.nl account. It is visible in the account settings, but not in the folder pane. I can only invoke the account settings dialog from a folder in the folder pane. In this case andre.viergever@gmail.com. Any changes I make in the account settings now pertain to the gmail folder. There is no way I can remove the xs4all account in the account settings, and it has already disappeared in the folder pane. So, how do I get rid of the xs4all account?

You might want to use the account actions button that is visible in the account settings image you posted.

How did you manage to remove it from the folder pane. That should not be possible with the account still in account settings. Perhaps before you actually remove the account you might want to select it in account settings and post what is shown under server settings. Because what you are saying does not really make a lot of sense to me at this point.

You can also invoke the Account Settings dialog via the menu bar (press Alt to unhide it if it is hidden) and going to the Tools menu, or via the app (hamburger) menu. See attached screenshots.

Hi Matt,

If I use the account actions button after selecting the xs4all account in the folder pane, and want to delete the account, Thunderbird wants to delete the gmail account (see screen shot attached). For some reason that email address is tethered to the xs4all account. Deleting or changing it in the account settings does not help. Thunderbird still wants to delete the gmail account.....

Change the Account Name field so that it matches the email address.
